What is a Vehicle Smart Card?
In Punjab, the traditional paper-based vehicle registration book has been replaced by a modern vehicle smart card.
It’s a small, ATM-sized plastic card with a built-in microchip that securely stores important details about your vehicle and its owner.
This includes:
- Registration number
- Engine number
- Chassis number
- Owner’s CNIC
It also features a QR code for quick verification of vehicle details.

FAQs – Smart Vehicle Registration Card in Punjab
Is the Vehicle Smart Card the same as the registration book
The Smart Card has replaced the old paper registration book for most vehicles. Older vehicles that have not yet been upgraded may still carry the original registration book, which remains valid until the vehicle is transferred or the card is issued.
Do I get a new Smart Card after an ownership transfer
Yes. Every completed ownership transfer results in a new Smart Card issued in the buyer’s name, and the previous owner’s card is retired. See our Punjab Vehicle Transfer Fee 2026 guide for the full transfer process and fee chart.
What should I do if my Smart Card is lost or stolen
Report the loss and apply for a duplicate registration certificate at your district Excise office with your CNIC and any available vehicle documents. A separate duplicate-issuance fee applies.
Can I use the Smart Card as identity proof
No. The Vehicle Smart Card confirms vehicle registration and ownership details only. It is not a substitute for your CNIC or any other personal identity document.
Is the Smart Card required for imported vehicles too
Yes, imported vehicles registered in Punjab also receive a Smart Card once registration is complete. If you are verifying an imported vehicle’s documents, see our imported vehicle verification guide.
